Executive Team

Robert Schaefer, CEO

With nearly 30 years experience, Robert built upon his Electrical Engineering (MIT) and Control Systems (University of Colorado) education to lead operations at companies including Digital Equipment Corp., MaxOptix and Hertric Development. Prior to founding AlsoEnergy, he was CEO at storage systems and software maker Breece Hill Technologies.

Holden Caine, CTO

With a career focused on developing high-performance, low-cost web-based software solutions for the digital imaging market, Holden was most recently Vice-President of software development for FujiFilm, USA. He served in similar capacities with Applied Graphics Technologies and the Eastman Kodak research lab. He holds a Computer Engineering degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Kevin Smart, Director of Sales and Marketing

Prior to joining AlsoEnergy, Kevin served as the Vice President of North America Sales for CEC Great Wall. Kevin started his career in the solar industry in 2009 with Satcon and served as Vice President managing the business development, international sales, and service teams. Prior to Satcon, Kevin worked in sales and business development at HP, Sybase, and Arthur Andersen. Kevin is a graduate of Alma College and received his MBA and Law Degree from Willamette University.

Rob Werner, Director of Operations

Rob oversees Production, Support, Financial Services and Manufacturing Engineering at our headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. Prior to joining Also Energy, Rob served as the Operations Manager at General Electric for their Thin-Film Solar panel manufacturing concern. He has over 25 years of leadership experience in Technical manufacturing environments biased towards high volume applications and International presence. He is a graduate of Miami (OH) University with a degree in Business Communications.

Kevin Suhr, Engineering Manager

Kevin Suhr leads AlsoEnergy’s engineering team, drawing upon a decade of experience designing and commissioning solar monitoring and control systems.  Kevin directs new product and service development for the engineering team, as well as our ongoing work to ensure compatibility with inverters and other system devices.  Kevin leads company efforts to promote new methods for lowering the cost and time to install, commission, and maintain DAS and SCADA systems. Prior to joining AlsoEnergy, Kevin worked in the field integrating smart solar devices from leading vendors for hundreds of projects.  Kevin holds a BA in Physics from the University of Colorado – Boulder.

Mesa Scharf, Utility Scale Solutions Manager

Mesa brings nearly 20 years of experience in the alternative energy industry, including 9 years with Advanced Energy, where he helped design control and monitoring solutions for some of the largest solar plants in North America. Mesa was responsible for definition of monitoring and control solutions for solar inverters as well as providing directional guidance on forward looking R&D programs. Mesa’s past experience includes Serveron, where he developed utility scale transformer monitoring products; and IdaTech, where he contributed as a systems integration expert for fuel cell systems.  Mesa holds a BSEE from Oregon State University, is a member of the IEEE, and holds 5 granted patents.

Lex Coen, Asset Management Product Specialist

A 10-year industry veteran, Lex joins the AlsoEnergy team with a wealth of solar asset management knowledge and experience.  Formerly the Vice President of Asset Management for AES Distributed Energy, Lex was responsible for solar asset portfolio operations & maintenance. His responsibilities included:  system monitoring, data acquisition, performance data analysis and intelligence, client relations, vendor and warranty management, billing and incentives, financial and regulatory compliance, remote diagnostics, preventative maintenance, field service, and asset fund stakeholder reporting.  Prior to his role with AES he also served as Vice President of Development at Main Street Power where he directed the company’s solar development efforts. Lex has worked diligently in his career to optimize solar assets and maximize production and revenue across thousands of project sites throughout North America.
